  • Happy Halloween

I hope everyone had a great Halloween. We had a few trick or treaters, mainly with the "you hit the bag, we hit the road" philosophy......

    Fall Backpacking in Colorado

We have been doing some late season backpacking this year. Most recently, we headed to James Peak, near Nederland, CO, about 30 minutes from Boulder. The weather was perfect blue skies, then dumping snow, then warm and sunny again....very weird.

Some of Rob's friends were out visiting and we hiked up Mt Bierstad, a fourteener near Georgetown, CO, about 15 minutes from Loveland Pass and the continental divide.

    5430 Triathlon

Last Sunday was the 2nd annual 5430 Ironman and 1/2 Ironman distance triathlon race in Boulder. In case you're wondering, 5430 is the elevation of Boulder. I finished in 6:25....it was a long day but lots of fun.

    2002 Telluride Bluegrass Festival

For many many years in a row now we have been visiting Telluride in late June for 4 days of music, relaxation, and great views. This year Mark and I went down early to claim our camping spot. We kayaked in Durango and hiked on Wilson Peak (14,200). This year was probably my best year ever with perfect weather and a great lineup.

    Trip to Exuma

Our friend Jon went on a trip to Exuma, Bahamas last week. Exuma is right next to Cat Island. Here is his description of the trip.

    from Jon:
My brother and I headed down to the Exuma Cays for a week of sun, sand and sea. Needless to say, we got plenty of each. Our time in the islands was a welcomed vacation and a good kickoff to the summer. Back in Colorado now, and as my good friend Kelly would say..."I can't wait for ski season to start again." Enjoy.

    Virginia Trip - May 2002
Last weekend I went to visit Vinny and Chris in Charlottesville, VA. Shenendoah National Park is a mere 20 minutes away with access to great hiking, backpacking and fly fishing.

    Day 1: The Fish
The first time flyfishing for me proved to be a relaxing one. Tom (Law school grad and Ex Orvis Flyfishing Guide) took Vinny and I out to Mossy Creek, VA on a cloudy Friday morning with rain in the forecast. We enjoyed a good beer after several hours of watching Tom catch fish where we had stood for long stints of time. On the drive home the storm predicted was on us......we were 100yrds away from a tree that got struck by lightning.

    Day 2: The Bear
Vinny and his german shephard Jack, Chris Trogner and his visla Fletch, and myself headed into the woods mid afternoon on Friday. We hiked in a few miles and setup our campsite. After reading, relaxing and trying to catch some fish, we heard vinny yell "bear".

    Day 3: The Plane
Back in Charlottesville after our bear encounter we were looking for something to do. It was decided that Chris and Vinny would take some Troegs beer and drive me out to Skydive Virginia to tailgate and watch me jump out of an airplane. Lead by Patrick, my instructor, everything went smooth. Here are some photos.

Here are some more pics of Chris, Fletch and the beers.
